What Qigong is

Qigong (氣功) is the practice of cultivating energy through slow, deliberate movement, breath, and attention. It's the gentlest doorway into the internal arts — no jumping, no strain, nothing you need to already be fit or flexible for. You stand, you breathe, you move slowly, and over time the body settles and the mind clears.

Where Tai Chi is a martial art practiced for health, Qigong is health practice first. The two belong together, and in my classes they're taught side by side: most beginners start with Qigong foundations before building into Tai Chi.

Why people practice

What Qigong is good for

Stress & stillness

Slows the breath and settles the nervous system. A reliable way to come down from a demanding life.

Energy & mobility

Builds steady energy, eases stiffness, and improves balance — gentle on the joints at any age.

Focus & awareness

Trains attention and body awareness that carry into everything else you do, on and off the mat.

Where to begin

Two ways to learn Qigong

In the weekly classes. Qigong is woven through every group class at Robson Square (Saturdays) and Kitsilano Beach (Wednesdays). Beginners always start here. Drop in for $35 — no registration, no experience needed.

One-on-one. If you'd like to learn Qigong for a specific health reason, or at your own pace, private lessons let us build the practice entirely around you.

Begin with the breath.
